A Study on the Direction of Medical Records and the National Medical Insurance

Abstract
The confidentiality of a medical record of a patient is a generally accepted idea. However, there are many exceptions denoted by laws and interpreted by courts. The information is generally held to be confidential because of legal and ethical grounds. Society feels patients must be protected so they will freely disclose all information to the physician in order that the physician may more fully diagnose and treat the patient. This principle of privileged communication has been extended to nurse and generally applies to hospital records.
The hospital is the owner of the record. The patient has the right to release or not release information from that record. Courts involving criminal cases and those involving insurance claims and liability are usually allowed access to the medical record.
